Does Z-Pak Help Cure Costochondritis?
Question: I'm currently taking antibiotics z-pak 250 milligram and 800 ibuprofen for costocondrtis. Just started z pack this week due to congestion. But was told this might help with my costocondrtis also. Started taking 800 ibuprofen last week. Pain still here. Do you feel this will help any.
Brief Answer:
z-pak won't help with costochondritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
ibuprofen will help with the pain. Z-pak won't, unless it's of infectious cause but that would be very unlikely!
Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
You should have seen some progress
Detailed Answer:
Costochondritis may last for several weeks but after taking so much ibuprofen, you should have seen some progress regarding your pain. The cortisone shot is usually the last resort when all else fails. There are other treatment options may include opioids, antidepressants and drugs like gabapentin or pregabalin.
Kind Regards!

It's not as bad as it was . But it's still there. I went for follow up yesterday and he said to continue ibuprofen another week and if this didn't resolve it to come back in. I can only take 1 ibuprofen a day they are to strong for me. He recommended 3x a day but they where too strong. Is one a day slowing down the process or does it matter?
Brief Answer:
it doesn't matter much probably
Detailed Answer:
Ibuprofen relieves the pain but it won't negate the initial cause of the inflammation. It does relieve the pain by intervening on the inflammation cycle but not its cause. 1 per day is not enough. What kind of problems did you experience?

Was feeling groggy at the head. I was going to take one in morning and one at night. How many hours apart do I take them.
Brief Answer:
6-8h apart
Detailed Answer:
Perhaps you could try another NSAID to see what happens. Ibuprofen is given in 6-8 hours intervals. Do not exceed 3200mg per day.
Kind Regards!

I tried the ibuprofen twice a day in the time frame you stated. I felt fine and not groggy. Hope this works. I'm going to give thru the weekend if it does not do better I'm going to let my doctor know. He prescribed me enough for two weeks however I only took one a day last week. Do you feel twice a day will help?
Brief Answer:
it will help but more would be better
Detailed Answer:
Ibuprofen dosage requires taking it 3-4 times per day. If you do feel better with less then this is fine! Otherwise you can try to increase the dosage. Don't forget to drink enough fluids in order to produce clear urine (not dense dark yellow urine).
Kind Regards!
