Does A TSH Reading Of 0.048 Suggest Hyperthyroidism?
Question: Which reading would be closer to hyperthyroidism .048 or .071
Brief Answer:
Are you referring to TSH measurement?
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
I am assuming the .048 and .071 readings are TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) readings? If that is the case, the lower the TSH number, the higher the thyroxine level. So .048 is a (slightly) smaller number than .071 which may correlate with "closer to hyperthyroidism".

Yes those are TSH numbers. Does the chart for TSH reading show that .035 would still be a safe range for normal thyroid . So am I correct to say that .071 is still in the normal range if I am not experiencing rapid heart rate or dry brittle hair. My hair is oily. I had Graves' disease at 15 that was treated until I was about 25. I have been treated for hypothyroidism using 1.0 or 100mcg until I am now 50 and it seems to be too much medication. Any medical advise for me.
Brief Answer:
Best to treat the symptoms and not just the TSH level.
Detailed Answer:
If, on the scale the lab your blood was sent to, .035 is considered normal, then yes, .071 would be normal. It is on the lower end of the normal range which means that you have to much thyroid hormone - either you are making more, or the dose you are getting is on the higher end for you.
So even though your TSH is in a normal range, if you are feeling like the amount of thyroid medication is too much for you (such as jitteriness, difficulty sleeping, etc), it very well might be. I suggest you go in to your doctor and point out that the TSH is on the lower end of normal and that you physically feel like the medicine is too much right now.
The amount of medicine needed can change over the course of one's life, and it is not uncommon to need a change around your age as your other hormones have or are changing.
