default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: does a pupil that is constantly dilated be harmful to one's sight in that eye.. my pupil is frozen dilated due to too much atroprine being injected many times to open it, until it froze the muscle to retract it. is there something a doctor can do to restore it.

Brief Answer:
Proper control of light amounts getting to the eyes, surgery not a priority

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I understand how disturbing how this could be. There is one main effective option that could be tried at this point in time in my opinion.

The first is to use appropriate glasses to minimize the amount of light getting into the eyes. The fear hear is not only on the pupil, but the eye camera, otherwise called the retina. Excessive amounts of light on the retina could be hazardous, so proper regulation of amount of light reaching the retina is important.

Surgery will be counter productive in my opinion, and risks not producing any significant positive result in my opinion.

Continuous care for other complaints should be made known in time to your opthalmologist.

With your medical history, proper light control into the pupil remains the main crucial measure in this case. proper eye care considering the past medical history is vital.

Please, do feel free asking further questions in case of need. I will be glad making any modest contribution to your well being.

Thanks and kind regards,

Dr bain
