Question: Does a hypoplastic A1 segment of the Circle of Willis on MRA need follow up or reimaging?
Brief Answer:
Reevaluation if any new symptoms show up.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.
I have read your query.
Hypoplasia of one of the A1 segments is compensated by dominance other A1 segment that supplies the A2 segment, via the anterior communicating artery.
Following up with imaging is not necessary unless any neurological symptoms will be present, in such a scenario, an evaluation is necessary to understand correctly if something has changed in the circle of Willis circulation.
Evaluation and treatment of risk factors for thrombosis, stroke, etc. is necessary.
Discuss with your Neuologist these issues.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
