White sugar (chini) is actually a carbohydrates (sucrose, a diassacharide) which is very good source of energy (counted in calorie unit) in our body.
It does not contain any other nutrients or vitamins or minerals, so if you are planning to reduce weight then yes,you can completely omit it.
Many people thinks that excess tea or coffee or ice cream are responsible for weight gain but it is not completely true,actually the white sugar (we call it chini ,a key ingredient in it) is responsible for weight gain.
If you can omit it completely from them, then there will be no issue.
