Does A Subchorionic Hematoma Increase The Chances Of Miscarriage?
Question: Hello,
I am 9 weeks pregnant with my second child.
I am 30 years old no chronic diseases, no history of miscarriage and my first pregnancy was delivered via elective c section as per my own request. My son is 4 years old.
I went for my first scan yesterday at 9 weeks and the doctor said the baby is viable, however she saw a subchorionic hematomo (1.2x1.5cm) and said i should start duphaston twice a day for a month and remain on bedrest for 3 days off from work.
Needless to stay i am very worried and would like to know the risk of miscarriage here. I am not bleeding or spotting at all and no cramping either. I attached the ultrasound pictures. Is the hematoma position dangerous? It is considered large ?

Brief Answer:
No risk of miscarriage
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is common to have such small hematoma during early pregnancy and they resolve slowly by themselves.
There is no need to panic as there is no risk to your pregnancy. You will do well and pregnancy will continue normally.
The miscarriage rate is almost negligible. I don't think this is dangerous to worry about.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Thank you doctor.
Is the hematoma close to the placenta? According to my ultrasound scan is the position of it a common one or closer to the placenta than you would expect ?
Is the size less than half of the gestational sac ?

Brief Answer:
No harm to pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Placenta formation would be in early stages and there is no complete formation of placenta yet. Hence there is no question of near or far from placenta.
The size of hematoma is less than gestational sac.
Overall I expect pregnancy to continue uneventfully.
Hope I have answered your query.
