Question: Hi,
I am suffering from thyroid. T3,T4 levels are normal but TSH is abnormal. Due to this my periods get delayed and have PCOD also. i used to get periods once in 3 months and flow lasts for 15-20 days. I tried using contraceptive pills for 3 months cycle few years back to regulate my cycle but no use. Doctor advised me to take Thyronorm 50 mcg tablet daliy one. I am having daily one thyronorm 50 mcg tablet. Now i have two following questions.
1) what should i do to regulate my cycle?
2) please suggest the proper food /vitamin tablets(which balances the thyroid hormones) which helps me to regulate my cycle.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
The irregular periods are due to PCOD

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
TSH is the most sensitive of the Throid function tests. So if it is elevated, you have mild hypothyroidism even if your FT3 and FT4 are normal.
PCOD is not due to hypothyroidism. The main cause of PCOD is Insulin Resistance. You should lose weight , eat wholesome food and exercise. Also you should take Metformin which decreases Insulin Resistance. The oral contraceptive pills help you to have periods on time but it is the correction of Insulin Resistance that will cure the problem.
Sea foods rich in iodine would help in correcting any iodine deficiency and you should avoid goitrogens in the food.
