Question: can sciatica nerve pain be cured with acupuncture? also what over the counter meds is best
for the pain?

Acupressure can relieve symptoms, cure is hardly possible with it.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query. I have read it & understood your concern.
* In my knowledge.. acupuncture treatment (what ever way it acts) does help in soothing the pain, relieves inflammation. Sciatica is neurogenic pain caused by pinching/ pressure on sciatic nerve ( at spinal, hip level ) The cause being compression of the nerve causing all the symptoms.. it can not be cured without cause of compression is removed & it can not be achieved by acupressure.
Cure is possible by-
- Physiotherapy/ physical therapy, there by removing pressure on the nerve with changing body postures daily.. which gives temporary decompression & may give permanent cure .. when practiced over a long period.
- Surgical treatment is indicated if there is no relief with physiotherapy/ there is aggravation of symptoms - & it results in permanent cure.
* Over the counter NSAID drugs ( Brufen/Ibugesic )/ Pregbalin like drug to treat pain due to nerve damage/ steroids some times do help..
Drugs should be taken only after a doctor advises it...as per a patient's need & suitability.
