Does Anti Ageing Creams Causes Any Skin Damage?
I just turned 30 and got advice previously to start using antiaging creams.
I am quite skeptical in using them , Could you let me know if it is fine to use anti aging creams?
I have heard that if we stop using them skin gets more damaged. Please let me know.
Thanks
Anti ageing creams are ok to use; should be started early
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome back and Thank you for writing to us.
It is perfectly fine and in fact advisable to timely start using antiageing creams before signs of ageing are manifest... for the simple reason that it is easier to slow down ageing than reverse ageing.
AHA's (Glycolic acid) and retinol are effective antiageing molecules & are main active ingredients present in most of these antiageing creams.
It is a common myth that antiageing creams would damage skin and that skin would become worse when one stops using these creams but there is no basis for this reasoning & it is completely ill found.
Of course the skin would continue to age as before once you stop using these creams.
Therefore these creams should be used regularly over long term.
For maximum benefits you must also use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day & antiageing cream at night.
Sunscreen should be reapplied every 2-3 hours, specially if outdoors.
UV A part of the electromagnetic spectrum is responsible for sun induced ageing i.e photoageing and therefore using a broad spectrum sunscreen would protect skin against harmful effects of UV A.
In addition to using a sunscreen you must also protect your skin from sun exposure during times of day when sun is strongest i.e between 10 AM - 3 PM.
