That depends on the type of cancer

Hi Emailparkhurst,

The value of HIFU depends on the cancer type. What type are you interested in? Pancreatic, prostate, breast, etc.?

Best wishes.

I have prostate cancer confined in 4 of the 12 areas of the prostate with a XXXXXXX score of 7 (3+4) and 6 (3+3). HIFU was just approved this month, by the FDA, to treat prostate cancer. As such, can you answer my questions?

Brief Answer:
Dr. XXXXXXX Pugach of California

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

HIFU for relatively early prostate cancer may be a viable alternative for radical prostatectomy, and it may also be associated with a lower risk of functional problems (e.g. erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, etc.). It is however important to note, that is no high-quality scientific evidence to suggests whether HIFU all in all is better or worse than standard surgical treatment.

I know that Dr. XXXXXXX Pugach from California has a good reputation. In XXXXXXX Urology Associates offer HIFU, I believe.

Hope this helps.

To clarify, I have been dx with Prostate Cancer, with cancer in 4 of the 12 biopsies sites with a preliminary XXXXXXX score of 7 (3=4) in two sites and 6 (3=3) in two sites, all on the left side. The cancer appears to be contained in the Prostate. Since the FDA has just approved the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound this month and I feel I would be a good candidate for the procedure, I would like to know who you feel would be the best doctor to perform the procedure? I live in the XXXXXXX TN area, but would be willing to travel to get the best and most experienced doctor.
Please respond as soon as possible. Thank you,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Dr. XXXXXXX Scionti can be recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

There are many urologists who perform this procedure proficiently. A seasoned expert in the field would be Dr. XXXXXXX Scionti of Vituro Health. They are situated in XXXXXXX AL. I believe the other two doctors I mentioned also are capable experts. I suggest you call around and hear, a lot of this is about finding a doctor who YOU feel comfortable with.

Best wishes.
