Does Artery Aneurysm Cause Swelling Of Leg?

Question: Hi, my husband has just been diagnosed with a common iliac artery aneurysm ( right side ). Can this also be the cause of his right leg swelling, he is a 67yr old Scotsman who likes his whiskey & smokes. Not that there is anything wrong with that ! The aneurysm measures oblique AP diameter 41mm.
I would be grateful for any input.

yes, it can be and need to be treated

Detailed Answer:
Yes, an aneurysm can cause swelling of leg either by compression of veins or by arterial issues itself.
As far as treatment is concerned it is little grey zone. We treat aneurysms basically for risk of rupture and compression and related symptoms such as pain. Risk of rupture is high after 5cm and very low for aneurysms less than 3 cm. As his aneurysms are in between this measure, we need to consider all other factors such as location of aneurysm, are the symptoms related to it? etc and should give up smoking. After ruling out the possible contraindication he should also be started on beta blockers and echocardiography need to be reviewed.
