Does Beet Juice Affect Stool Colour?
Question: Hello,
I had a question. Yesterday I juiced with beets and had a good tall full glass of beet juice with a few other fruits added. I have never done this before btw. today I took a poop in the evening for the first time after drinking the beet juice the evening prior. I noticed a darkish red tinge at the bottom of the toilet but not so much in my poop. I went to the bathroom a second time kind of swirled the poo around with a cu-tip and could see this dark reddish color come of the poop and stain the water. Is this from the beet juice? I read somewhere that sometimes when this happens it could mean I need more iron. I do have issues with constipation at times and have even had hemorrhoids. this has never happened to me before but I have also never drank a healthy helping of pure beet juice.

Brief answer....staining due to beet root
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Beet root contains a pigment which is not absorbed by the body and this imparts a pinkish red colour to your stool.
It is perfectly normal.
Bleeding due to hemorrhoids would result in drops of blood at the end of stool.
There is nothing to worry and enzoy your healthy drinks.
It doesn't give any indication of any deficiency of iron.
In case doubts still persist, you can get your stool checked for the presence of blood in it.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
