Does Bronchospasm Cause Throat Congestion?
My bronchospasm from surgery 10 days ago seems to be healing after prednisone treatment, but I have a lot of congestion in my throat when i try to use the spirometer. I am only coughing very little, and do not feel congested otherwise. This seems strange to me. Should i be taking Mucinex or something to break up the congestion? When i blow into the spirometer it sounds like congestion mostly, which worries me. Otherwise, i have minor sob and have been exercising. When i walk a mile or two, my breathing is not bad at all, no problems. My spirometry numbers are higher but still low and if they are that low, i don't understand how i can feel so well most of the time.
Also i am having some insomnia and do not sleep as deeply. Is this normal?
Thank you. Have yet to see the pulmonologist.
It`s mainly because of bronchospasm.

Hi XXXX
The feeling of congestion that you are describing is mostly due to bronchospasm and very little due to actual congestion or phlegm. Since your airways are in a state of spasm, as the air passes through them, it makes noise which you are taking as congestion. Prednisolone will take care of it soon. You should also nebulize yourself with levoasthalin, ipratropium and budecort. take inhalers like symbicort. You may continue mucinac which will loosen what ever secretions you have and which can then be easily coughed out. Hest physiotherapy in the form of assisted coughing will also help. Drink plenty of water and other liquids.
Continue using incentive spirometer and do not worry about the results as long as you are improving.
Take a sleeping pill for some time if you feel very sleep deprived after consulting your treating doctor.
Thank you.
