Does Catheter Was Reinserting Cause Urine Issues ?

default
Posted on 4 days ago
Question: I had almost 2 liters of urine backed up into the bladder probably due to a very large prostate. I had a catheter inserted and it drained. The catheter remained in me for 8 days. After the doctor removed the it, he inserted 8 ounces of water into the bladder and we waited 20 minutes for me urinate. I never did. I didn't have any feeling that I had to urinate at any time. The catheter was reinserted and is still in me. My question is since I did not I did not urinate normally for 8 days, is it normal to simply urinate as usual? Should I have given it more time? My doctor is at a loss on what to do next except for scheduling me for Aquablation.

Brief Answer:
You have Chronic Retention Of Urine due to Enlarged Prostate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have Chronic Retention Of Urine due to Enlarged Prostate.

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with Post Void Residual Urine
3) Serum PSA.
4) Uroflowmetry.
5) Routine blood tests for Blood Sugar ,Lipid Profile ,Renal Function tests.

In view of 2 liters of urine drained and you not being able to pass urine after catheterization for a week strongly suggest that your Urinary Bladder has become uncompliant resulting into Chronic Retention of urine secondary to Enlarged Prostate which needs to be investigated .

Looking at the scenario you will need to undergo surgery of Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) to resect out the enlarged prostate to make the urinary passage free from obstruction .This will help you to pass out urine freely and will improve quality of your life .

The time of surgery will be decided by the concerned Urologist after going through the results of above mentioned tests .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions, I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
