Does Change In Position Of Nexplanon A Cause For Concern?

Question: My girl friend is on nexplanon birth control and has been for 2 months and it moved in her arm a little bit from the original location of insertion. She said it also kind of burned recently. Does any of this make it less effective? Is it still 99.9% effective?

Hi,

I understand your concerns about nexplanon implant.

It is normal for the implant to move little away from its originial site of insertion. This is done to accommodate in best possible place of the arm by nexplanon.

This still gives full contraceptive protection and does not reduce the efficiency of contraceptive benefits.

Hence don't worry about the reduced contraceptive benefits . It will be effective contraceptive.

Burning sensation is temporary and don't worry about it.

Thank you. So we are still safe and completely protected from pregnancy then. How effective is the nexplanon exactly? We were informed less than one woman out of 100 will become pregnant. Is this true?

You are right about failure rate. There is possibility of 1 in 100 women getting pregnant.

But in general it is safe. Not to be worried. Even other contraceptives have certain degree of failure rates.
