Does Cystectomy Result In Permanent Damage Of The Ovaries?
Question: Hi I had a cyst on my left ovary which was ruptured. I am 27 years old. The cyst was hemarrogic and it was bleeding plus there was a lot of fluid in my abdomen. I had to undergo a laparoscopy to remove the cyst. The doctor said my ovaries stayed intact but it was a cystectomy. My worry is that is it possible that the ovaries are really intact even if they had to remove a cyst on it? I am just very afraid that there has been damage done but from what the doctor said and what I read in the results is that it was a laparoscopic cyctectomy of a hemarroghic cyst. Can u pleas help me? I am meeting the doctor in a few days but I would like to know more and feel a bit more assured. Thank you
Brief Answer:
Get tests done to check ovaries
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns about damage to ovaries.
The damage to ovaries is very rare and unlikely.
However, if you wish you can check for ovarian reserve by following tests :
1) FSH
2) AMH
3) Ultrasound scan to check Astral follicle count.
These tests identify if there is damage to ovary and loss of ovarian reserve and loss of eggs.
Let me know if you need anymore help.

What is FSH and AMH? Blood tests?
Brief Answer:
Blood tests assess if there is damage to ovary
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
These blood tests show if the ovary is normal and no injuries as you suspect.
If there is ovarian injury ( which is unlikely), These blood values will be affected showing reduced ovarian reserve. These tests I recommend as you suspect ovarian damage.
