Does Diabetes Affect Sperm Quality?
Question: I am 31 years and diabetic from past 4 years, but from past 6 months I am under excellent control. But now my wife has got pregnant a week back. Does it effect the baby by any chance?
Brief Answer:
It wont affect
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concern
Don't worry. Diabetes in father or medications are not associated with any complications in baby. This applies only to women getting pregnant where diabetes, diabetic medications and BP medications can adversely affect the baby.
Genetically you can transmit the diabetic genes to your baby. So the baby can develop diabetes in future as he/she inherit half the genes from you.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
With warm regards,

Brief Answer:
This happens in longstanding uncontrolled diabetes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
No need to worry.
There are some reports that diabetes affect sperm quality. This usually occurs in longstanding and uncontrolled diabetes. There are no conclusive evidence on sperm motility or infertility in patients with diabetes.
You are only on a starting dose medication for diabetes. Even though some sperms may be affected the normal fertilization usually occur with the better sperm you have.
There are no studies that show the babies born to diabetic fathers are different from others in any way. Only thing is that they are at risk of diabetes in future as diabetes is a genetically transmitted disease.
Hope this will clear your doubts.
