Does Drinking Of Water Prior To Ora Quick HIV Test Have Any Effect On Results?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 May 2016
Question: Hello, i had a Ora quick test couple of days before and came out NEGATIVE, But i am just curious now that i did it properly , today i realize i drank sip of water around 20-25 mins before the test, it was just a one sip. Is that make any difference to the result ,?

Then i today another ora quick test following all the instruction. And it came out Negative again. Should i consider this 100% accurate. Two negative results in a week.

I am just worried because i had this exposure 6-7 years before and if the oral fluid didn't detect the antibodies? i know am over thinking But just want to clear from my mind?

Brief Answer:
It is 100% accurate after 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your query and understand the concern you are worried about.

Two negative ora-quick test results are definitely 100% reliable and accurate if the last exposure is before 3 months or more. In your case the incident is 6-7 years before so no need to worry at all.

Drinking small amount of water before test has no impact on its result and it will detect the presence of antibody if any present. It is just your anxiety or fear nothing else so forget about the incidence.

Hope this info will help you. For any further query get back to me any time. Stay happy and healthy.

Thank You

Thanks Doctor for you fast response, i was trying to move on but i read online something about the false negative results. 1 out of 12 result are false.

I know am just freaking out here more. i know am out of the 3 month window period and i am sure both times i followed the instructions carefully. But these online reading make me confused about the accuracy of the results.

Do you think i took another one to just make sure 3rd ora quick or any other test give more satisfaction.

Brief Answer:
No risk for HIV in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXX,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

I know the possibility of false negative result with ora-quick test is high but within 3 months window period. After 6-7 years it is not possible to get false positive result so don't think much on that issue.

As such no need to go for another test but for your mental satisfaction you can get tested for HIV 4th generation test to clear your doubts and the result will definitely come in your favour so be relaxed.

Thank You
