Does Erythema Migrans Indicate Lyme Disease?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Aug 2016
Question: I have a bullseye marking that does not go away. At first I thought that it was a black and blue mark but I have had this for a while and am getting concerned. Can you tell me what this is and what I need to do.
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Needs blood clotting workup

Detailed Answer:
H! Welcome to health care magic!
Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

Based on the history and image you have shared, it can be underlying blood leakage and one such lesion if it is painless and resolving may be ignored but if it persists or extends in volume then some blood workup including complete blood count for platelets and coagulation profile with INR and bleeding time may be needed to look for any possible cause.

No medications are needed at this stage before further work-up.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Regards.

After doing some of my own research, I thought that this bullseye looked like some pictures that I saw of Lyme disease. Do you think that this is a possibility and if so what should I do?

Brief Answer:
Needs clotting profile to rule out common causes first

Detailed Answer:
Hi!
Thanks for the detailed feedback.

Well before ruling out the commonly found causes of such rashes like clotting derangement or bruises due to vasculitis or auto immune phenomenon, it is least likely to be Lymes. Lyme disease without other symptoms like fever or nerve involvement, is less likely.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Regards.
