Does Genital HSV-1 Establish Latency In The Genital Area?
Question: I understand that HSV-1 usually establishes latency in the nerves near the head and that reactivating from there, HSV-1 causes viral shedding and outbreaks on lips, nose, oral mucosa, and sometimes other parts of the face. Does genital HSV-1 establish latency in the genital area?

Yes, Hsv - 1 can establishes latency in genital area but less often than Hsv - 2. Hsv - 2 is more native to genital latency and it causes more frequent and severe recurrences of genital herpes as compared to Hsv - 1 which causes less frequent and milder recurrences of genital herpes
