Does Gum Grow Back After A Dental Implant Is Placed?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Sep 2014
Question: I am in the process of getting an implant on my 2 front teeth. During the process of finding the abutement, the dentist used a laser to burn throught the gum tissue to find the abutement. it left a big hole on the top front of my gum on top of the current bridge and a big hole under my roof mouth below and around the abutement. My question is will the gum grow back after the implant is placed? After all this burn, he couldn't take out the screw that currently covers the abutement so I have to go back to his surgeon partner and see if he can take it out. Do screws get stuck in the abutement? is this normal?

Brief Answer:
bone infection, Radiograph, CT, Currettage

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far as the holes in the upper jaw is concerned, it can be secondary to delayed wound healing or bone infection.
Basically there are other methods to find out the abutment tooth rathers than damaging the gums.
You could have taken a radiograph to find out the abutment rather than going for lasers. Consult a oral physician and take a radiograph like IOPAR or RVG to find out the abutment teeth. Get a CT done to check the quality, height and density of the bone. Later we can decide whether the site is ideal for placement of the implants.
Regarding the bridge, it looks like a 6 unit bridge. Once you take the radiograph to rule out what tooth has been taken as abutment in the bridge.
If there is any infection in the bone, you can get that area curretted. The exposed bone with a hole in the gum can be corrected by currettage.
Consult a oral maxillofacial surgeon and get a radiograph done and mail me or upload the images, so that I can give the exact treatment plan.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.
