Does Head Injury Lead To Hydrocephalus?
The Head Injury could be the reason for Hydrocephalous
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand that you have doubt about hydrocephalous.
When You hit your head against a hard object, some small blood vessels in your brain may have ruptured --> Blood would have come out of these blood vessels --> Blood would have come in the region of your brain called Sub Arachnoid Space (this is a space between Arachnoid and Pia layers of your brain) --> This would have caused Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage
This Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage would have caused Headache and and vomiting throughout the night --> Soon the Blood clot would have started resolving and hence hemosiderin would be present in the sub arachnoid space --> These hemosiderin would have gone and clogged the Arachnoid Granulations --> Arachnoid Granulations have reduced capacity to drain CSF into Venous Sinuses --> Hydrocephalous
In Short
1. Trauma causes Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage
2. Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage causes Obstruction to CSF Flow
3. Obstruction to CSF Flow causes Hydrocephalous
So
Coming to your Question "I just want feedback if this is could be why you developed Hydrocephalus" the answer is YES . . . The Head Injury could be the reason for Hydrocephalous
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thank you for answering my question! I thought thats how I developed hydrocephalus! In November of 2011 I had a CT scan and it didn't show anything! Maybe because they didn't use dye? I've also read CT scans don't always show damage. Is that true?
Thank you,
XXXXX
Hydrocephalous may even develop after months or even years
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam
Welcome Back to Health Care Magic
1. Post Traumatic Hydrocephalous (i.e. Hydrocephalous following head injury) can be a long drawn process and hence may not be visible in earlier scans . Hydrocephalous may even develop after months or even years
2. Contrast Scan is not Needed for this condition
3. CT don't always show damage. But CT will Show Hydrocephous

Thank you for answering my questions! When I hit my head I didn't get knocked out! I hit it hard enough it made me cry! When I woke up that night vomiting I didn't correlate the vomiting w the hit to my head! Now that I think about it ,the following months after I hit my head I was able to do my work but I just didn't feel right in my head! I am even remembering things today about my speech not being right. I would speak and mumble! I now can remember sitting in my truck thinking why am I having problems speaking! Is this normal to forget I hit my head, and remember details a year later? Thank you, XXXX
Thank you,g

Again, I thank you so much for answering all of my questions! Is it possible that I had a concussion, and caused more damage because I kept working after the hit. I took the next day off, because i was so tired from vomiting through out the night! I continued working after that. I have a physical job, and worked 4 days a week for about 9-12 months before i developed vertigo. I have always been a healthy person, but after I hit my head my health went downhill. Because of the PTA , did I create more health problems because I didn't seek immediate medical attention?
Thank you, XXXXX
Shunt Surgery has been done, problem solved, and you will be best of health
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
You have not created more health problems because you did not seek immediate medical attention
The Complication you had encountered is a delayed complication of head injury, which occurs weeks or even months after trauma. So Even if you had been admitted and undergone detailed evaluation, these would not have been picked up earlier
From what you have narrated till now, I don't think that you have had concussion
So
Please do not worry
Because Shunt Surgery has been done, your problem has been solved, and you will be in best of your health in future
