Hearing aids are assistive devices.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. Yes, the use of a hearing aid will slightly impede or reduce the efficiency of your normal hearing as it blocks the ear canal. The newer vented ear pieces are a better option.
2. A hearing aid will make hearing easier, understanding speech easier. It will not alter the underlying condition in any way. It will not damage or improve the existing hearing loss as with eyesight correction, neither will it prevent any further hearing loss. A digital programmable hearing aid can be adjusted as per current and future requirements.
3. A BAHA will not affect your normal hearing and will assist the hearing as it is fitted in the skull behind the ear and not in the ear canal.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
