Does Heavy Clotted Menstrual Bleeding At The Age Of 51 Require Medical Attention?

Question: I am 51 and have as expected, irregular and heavy periods. However, this one I am experiencing now is causing me to change pads every hour, and a few minutes ago as I sat on the edge of the tub trying to decide what to do, a clot fell out of me and created a splat the size of a deck of cards. Bright red blood, alarming.
I have had a normal menstrual cycle since age 13, have given birth 3 times, am a healthy weight, physically fit runner. Just need to know if I should be worried, There is no pain. I take multi vitamin with iron, feeling normal, just concerned. Is there any reason to see a doctor for this?:

Brief Answer:
Yes, you need to consult an OBGYN

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Any excessive vaginal bleeding especially after 45 years needs to be evaluated. It could be either hormonal or due to abnormalities inside the uterus like polyps or other lesions.

Whatever may be the cause, the bleeding has to be stopped after getting an ultrasound scan. It may not stop on its own.

Hence, I suggest you to consult a gynecologist at the earliest.

I hope my answer helps you.
