Does Hypertension Cause LBBB?

I have below questions
1. Is LBBB only due to hypertension in this case or any other cause has led to this for example any viral or bacterial infection in heart. How to investigate the cause behind LBBB?
2. Since LBBB has developed between last April to this XXXXXXX (ECG taken in April 2014 was normal), what are the chances that further blockage might happen in future. Will there be blockage on right side as well going forward?
3. Does reducing Hypertension prevent further conduction blockage? How to prevent this
4. What are the treatment options available for LBBB
Cause may be high blood pressure, viral, lyme disease./ Pace maker helps.
Detailed Answer:
HI,XXXX,
Thanks for the query under HCM forum.
I have read your query carefully, & understand your concern. your curiousness about the condition is natural. I would try to answer your queries one by one.
1.LBBB can be caused by long standing / not properly controlled hypertension. Your husband is on hypertension medicines since 18 months. In case he had non diagnosed / non treated hypertension before that, he may have LBBB due to hypertension.
- Apart from that Lyme disease can cause LBBB. Lyme disease is a tick born disease caused by bacterias.. It is characterized by round inflammatory lesion on skin. It also involves joints/heart/ nerves/ eyes.
The diagnosis is by serological tests.
- Viral infection causing myocarditis can lead to LBBB. So history of recent viral fever can indicate viral cause.
- Metabolic causes as diabetes can lead to the problem.
2. Yes, if the ECG in April 2014 was normal, without any sign of LBBB, the problem has arisen after April 2014 . as ECG is diagnostic test for LBBB. & slightest change is seen in it.
- Spread of blockages ( to right side ) depends on persistence of the cause. That is why life long health issues like high blood pressure / diabetes .. are to be strictly under control/ evaluated regularly by expert cardiologist.
3. Yes controlling hypertension will definitely prevent progress of the blocks.
4. the LBBB patients need a through cardiac evaluation / control the causative factors well by expert cardiologist..
- Pace maker implantation is best treatment available for relief as & when advised by cardiologist.
I hope, the answer has answered all of your queries well & helped you for further management.Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
