Does Intake Of Acyclovir Help In Curing Canker And Cold Sores In Mouth?

Question: I have canker sores all over my lower gums and lower lip. Started XXXXXXX 28. Getting worse daily. Have tried salt water rinse, honey, and Thieves essential oils. Today I took a 400mg acyclovir I have for cold sores. Dentist has ordered Lidocaine mouth wash but that will only numb the ulcers. Will acyclovir help make them go away? What dosage? If not acyclovir, what will stop these canker sores?
