Does Intake Of Januvia Cause A Drop In Blood Levels?

Question: My mother-in-law takes Januvia and Warfarin. She has to have her blood levels checked every two weeks. She takes the Warfarin because she has very bad vericose veins. She has been feeling tired and dizzy lately and believes the Januvia is causing this problem. She can't have anything with high levels of Vitamin K in it. she's always careful when we go out to eat. she always tell our server that she can't have dark leaves, no spinach, etc. Since August, which is when she started the Januvia, her blook levels have been lower than 2. They are supposed to be between 2 and 3. Can the Januvia be causing this drop in her levels?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
Yes, the drug interaction is possible.
However, it is an indirect interaction.
You see what happens is that januvua improves the renal functions in diabetics.
So her excretion power is better.
Now warfarin has a renal excretion.
So it gets excreted faster.
I therefore suggest that you will need to increase the warfarin dose in consultation with your prescribing doctor. .
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
