Does Intake Of Phenazopyridine Help In Treating The Symptoms Of UTI?

Question: I have beginning symptoms of a urinary track infection which I've experienced in the past--primarily due to my hysterectomy. Is it okay to take 200 mg of phenazopyrid which I have on hand?

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you are suspecting to have impending symptoms of UTI .and do have Phenazopyridine with you .

Phenazopyridine is a urinary antiseptic and not an antibiotic being prescribed as a prophylactic medication in UTI .

There is no harm in taking the drug along with urine alkalizer thrice daily.However if you get symptoms of UTI do not hesitate to get your routine urine test and culture done so that you can take appropriate antibiotic as per culture report.
