Does Intake Of Trinessa Help In Treating Premenstrual Syndrome?
Question: i am having premenupasal symptoms and am currently taking trinessa birth control for irregular periods. I am having my 7th "period" in the past 6-8 week period. I am 38 years old. my questions is should I stop taking the trinessa?
Brief Answer:
stop if using for more than 3 months
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,
Birth control pills can cause irregular bleeding especially during the first few months. But if you are taking trinessa for more than 3 months and periods are still irregular then you should consider changing the type of pill or use another method of contraception or as treatment for premenstrual syndrome(PMS).
I would like to know since when are you using Trinessa?
Are you using it mainly as a contraceptive or as a treatment for PMS.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

I actually have been taking the Trinessa since 2007/2008. Prescribed due to high prevelance of developing cysts. I had a large fallopian cyst that had to be surgically removed. My doctor prescribed the Trinessa to help prevent further cyst because she thought that the cyst was probably due to the irregular periods. The Trinessa has so far worked very well controlling the irregular periods but recently I have had 7 periods in the last 6-8 weeks. Im not taking Trinessa for PMS symptoms. Now recently I have been having a lot of hot flashes & other premenapausal symptoms. I am unable to see my own physician for another 3 weeks so in the mean time I was wondering if it would be a good idea to stop the Trinessa.
Brief Answer:
unlikely due to pill
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you were taking the pills for so long it is unlikely that this irregular period is due to it.
If you are having hot flushes, irregular periods it could be due a hormonal cause either premature menopause or thyroid.
You need to get your FSH levels and TSH levels checked.
A pelvic examination by a gynaecologist and a pelvic ultrasound is also indicated to check for any other cause such as fibroid or polyp which may cause the bleeding.
Best to get checked earliest to know the cause.
Hope this helps.
