Does Intake Of Tylenol Cause Elevated ALT Levels?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: I'm a 51 yo female with a Lmg of HTN. I was told my ALT was elevated (59). I'm recovering from surgery and also a shoulder injury so I have been alternating Tylenol and IBN several times a day for the last 2 months. Could the Tylenol have caused the elevation? I have limited consumption of alcohol and am not on statins. Since I've stopped Tylenol I was wondering how long it will take ALT return to normal

Brief Answer:
It's mild elevation

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
It seems that you have Tylenol and IBN that is NSAIDs induced hepatitis.
Rise in ALT seems to be only acute in nature. This should in fact settle with in 3-4 weeks.
So, my recommendations for you would be to get the test done after 1 month and if the levels are still raised, I would recommend evaluation further.
1. HBsAg for Hepatitis B.
2. Anti HCV Antibody for Hepatitis C.
3. Ultrasound Abdomen.
Avoid alcohol consumption.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
