Does Intake Of Zolsoma Cause Seizures?
Question: Hi doctors. From year 2008 I had been on zolsoma 10 mg ( and 5 mg initially) for a period of 7.5 years. In this time frame I had also abused the dosage of the medicine. I had managed to give up the medicine entirely for 6 months in 2008-2009; 2-3 weeks in 2013 and 1.5 months in 2015.
Now coming to the main point-- I had a seizure in March 2013 (I was unconscious and taken to hospital). The very next day I dislocated my left shoulder. Again, in August 2013 I had another seizure in a different city which lead to a shoulder dislocation (left). Finally last XXXXXXX I had another seizure (I feel I forgot to take the anti-epipleptic medication)-- this also resulted in two left shoulder dislocations. (I had two seizures last year). The CT Scan, Brain MRI are all good, epilepsy is not conclusive. Doctors please what can u suggest to me? Is it because of the zolsoma the seizures are coming? Should I discontinue them? Please help me- I would be grateful. The side effect of the enchronate chrono is I am becoming fat. I am also low on morale due to the seizures. Please give your advice/suggestion on what to do.

Hi,
Thank your for your query.
I understand your concern.Post seizure shoulder dislocation is common in epileptic patients and it can be recurrent. For recurrent dislocations you have to consult an orthopedician for further evaluation.
Tab ZOLSOMA is prescribed for insomnia patients. In my opinion Tab ZOLSOMA (zolpidem) is not causing your epilepsy. I recommend you to continue the anticonvulsant drug prescribed by your doctor for atleast 5 yrs of seizure free period.
Tab Encorate Chrono causes Weight gain, but you can't stop the medication.
Most common cause of seizure attack is noncompliance & non adherence to the medication.
Kindly get back to me if any query.

Dr VSK

Thanks doctor. But I feel extremely "good" on discarding the Zolsoma tablet. I only got a seizure in March 2013 only when I was abusing these tablets so I feel there is a causal relationship that is existing between the tablet and the occurrence of the seizure.
I did get away from using the zolsoma tablet and using the encorate chrono tablet and I had felt very good from a health perspective. Secondly, I never had a seizure prior to March 2013 so I strongly suspect after prolonged abuse of zolsoma it might have triggered this seizure.
Can't I reduce my weight if I follow some diet, and exercise properly after consuming enchorate chrono so that it doesn't affect my weight? (I might also reduce my weight too)
Thanks doctor, XXXXXXX
