Question: I recently started my birth control pills again last Thursday 2nd of July. I am scheduled to get mg prior today but have not gotten it yet. I have light cramps but nothing too strong. Will my pill affect me getting my period on time? Should I be worried?

Hello,

My last period was XXXXXXX 13-18. Very light on the last day or two. The pill I am taking is called Luteria. Here is the information for it: What is Lutera (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel)?

Ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel is a combination drug that contains female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

I have been taking birth control for about 10 years or so. I recently stopped within the last 3 months or so then started again on the 2nd of July. I was scheduled to get my period today July 11 without the pill but recently my concern is since I started again will it delay my accual date. I took the pill on Thursday and then forgot about it so I took two then took it again regularly and forgot again yesterday so I took two again today. I know this is bad but I ALWAYS forget.

Brief Answer:
hormonal imbalance might be there

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
In my opinion after stoppage of pills it usually takes 6 months to 1 year for normal restoration of menstrual cycles.
As you had been taking oral contraception pills for 10 years and again started after a gap of 3 months there will be hormonal imbalance.
So the period will be delayed. It might be usually be within 2-3 days after stopping pills if the pills are correctly used.
And as you are on oral pills for long time it is better to undergo regular pap smear examination, self examination of breasts and ultrasound abdomen.Because oral pills are associated with sideeffects like cervical carcinomas, breast tumours ,liver and gall bladder abnormalities etc.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
