Does It Take Long To Recover From Mucus Build Up In The Bronchial Tubes?
Get done PFT and start treatment according to the severity.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Bronchitis is inflammation of airways. It causes bronchospasms and this in turn causes breathing difficulty, wheezing, cough and expectoration.
Treatment of bronchitis is based on its severity. To gauge the severity, a PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) should be done.
Please let me know:
1. Have you undergone PFT?
2. Which inhaler you are taking?
3. Do you smoke presently or in the past?
Bronchitis is curable. And best treatment is inhaled treatment. Thus, I want to know if you are taking an appropriate inhaler or not.
Mucinex DM is good drug for bronchitis. Hence, continue it.
Hope I have answered your query. Please reply to the above asked questions so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health.
Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Bronchitis can develop in old age irrespective of viral infection. In some patients, it can persist for the rest of their lives.
Persistent mucus production is also a symptom of ongoing uncontrolled bronchitis.
You are not taking appropriate treatment for bronchitis. The best treatment for bronchitis is long acting beta 2 agonist (LABA) (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone) combination.
Mucinex is also good drug as adjuvant therapy. Albuterol is short acting bronchodilator. It is not anti inflammatory.
In bronchitis, we need to reduce inflammation. Above all, PFT is a must because it gives us information about the severity of bronchitis so that we can start appropriate treatment.
For me, the next step would be to consult a pulmonologist and get a PFT (to know the severity) and then start long acting inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid. Continue with Mucinex and other multivitamin tablets.
Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health.
Thank you.
