Does Medication Taken For PCOS Affect The Menstruation Cycle?
Question: I had foot surgery two weeks ago and was taking Cefadroxil caps from January16-24. I was also taking oxycodone for pain from January 16-29. I normally take birth control pills for PCOS but have not taken them for the past month because of the surgery. I started my period 3 days sooner than I should have and today is my eighth day and I am still having bleeding. My periods usually last 5-7 days. What concerned me is that I thought it was ending on day five but on day six I started bleeding heavily again and passed a lot of tissue. Today I am bleeding but, it seems to be light again. Do you think the medications I have been taking could have caused this irregularity? Or could it be because I am not currently on birth control pills? If I continue to have light bleeding, at what point should I try to see my ob/gyn?
Thank you for any insight you may have.

Brief Answer:
It can be birth control pills.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I can understand your concerns.
The medications you are taking after the surgery do not cause heavy bleeding .
The reason could be that you stopped taking birth control pills and you have pcos but it can only be confirmed if you see an obgyn in person.
i will advise you to get an appointment for obgyn now.

Thank you for your reply. The bleeding seems to be stopping today (sunday, day 9). I only had a bit of spotting today. If i don't have any more bleeding tomorrow, would you still recommend going to the doctor, or would you advise me to wait and see what happens with my period next month?
I was originally planning to start taking a new type of birth control pill today but, due to this bleeding issue i think I will wait until next month to begin the pills. Does that sound like a good idea to you?
thank you,

Brief Answer:
Start pills after bleeding stops
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
If the bleeding is stopping then no need to go to obgyn right now.
You should start the pills the day your bleeding stops completely and NOT next month.
