Does Myocardial Stunning And Hibernation Cause Harm To One's Heart?
Question: Myocardial Stunning and Hibernation dose this do harm to your heart in anyway?
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Your last exam results are very good.
Your heart contractility is excellent.
There is only residual small area of hypoperfusion (area of hibernating myocardium) which can't alter your heart function.
So you shouldn't worry, your stent has maximally resolved the ischemia.
Wish you good health.
If you have further questions don't hesitate to ask
Regards,
Nothing to worry

Dr. Lilit Baghdasaryan,
I had a month of symptoms before it was detected.
At first the Doctor said it was a heart attack.
I did have a 95% blockage and had a stent put in with great results.
There was a 41% infraction and now a 70% infraction.
Dose this mean there was some heart attack or is this what they call hibernating myocardium?
Forgive me for asking what dose There is only residual small area of hypoperfusion mean?
Thank you

The difference between heart attack and hibernation is; in myocardial infarction (heart attack) there is no blood supply to the some part of myocardium, so the cells in that part die. when there is continuous ischemia cells don't die, but it is a condition when they sleep, (hibernation) when ischemia resolves (e.g after putting a stent) hibernated cells wake up and start to contract again, but after infarction they can't wake up any more. In your case after the stent everything is already ok, so you should not worry, there is no harm and small residual area means there are some cells which are sleeping yet, but it don't disturb your entire heart function

Don't worry
