Does Olive Oil Smoke Point Can Be Toxic To Inhale?
Question: hello Doctor
I use olive oil for cooking and this morning I was using olive oil on a pan with sweet potatos. But What I did not know was, there were some olive oil on the cooking plate itself by accident(under the pan). So When I turned up the plate, and about 1 minute after, there was smoke coming out. I immediately tried to wipe it off and there was even more smoke. After a few seconds I opened the door and windows. I have always heard about olive oil smoke point can be toxic to inhale - and I just wanted to know if a short happening like this is anything to worry about for me ?

Brief Answer:
No it does not cause toxicity for such a short time ,no worries
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern
As you explain the situation i do not think that such a short time of inhalation of fume might be toxic to your airways. I can assure you that there are no scientific data until now that shows such damage. I strongly recommend you to ventilate the home by taking the windows and the door open for some hours.
If you don*t feel difficulty in breathing, continuous dry cough or chest pain than no worries. The cough might be in the first minutes of inhalation of a and after it gets better until disappearing.
Hope to have been helpful
Stay safe
Regards

thank u :)
I have not had any symptoms except being afraid of it being toxic.
So if I don't feel any symptoms, they're probably not gonna happen after a few hours or days ?
thank u
