Does Pain In Upper Abdomen After Binge Drinking Indicate Liver Damage?
Question: I don't drink through the week but I drink most weekends. I really binge drink a lot of vodka. I hadnt drank for 2 months but the last 4 weekends I have but not including one just gone. I have really binge drank on the Saturday night. I have been getting a discomfort in my liver. my upper right abdomen. its not painfull but I am aware of it. I know you are going to tell me to get LFT. I am struggling with work to get to GP is there a possibility that it just tender from the over indulging or could I have damaged it if it is my liver. I stools seem normal my eyes look white and my skin does not seem yellow.
Brief Answer:
You guessed it! LFT are needed!
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
sometimes chronic high alcohol consumption may result in a tender enlarged liver but this denotes liver damage. Liver function tests are needed to determine if liver damage has indeed occured. Other tests might be useful depending on the results like albumin, globulin levels, INR etc
Since you don't seem to have a yellow discoloration of your skin or eyes, this is a good sign.
An ultrasound scan of the liver would be very useful as well.
I hope I've helped!
If you'd like more information, please let me know. I'll be glad to answer.
Kind Regards!
