Question: Hi
It has been 33 days since my friend has got her period. She took a urine test and the doctor has confirmed she is pregnant. She has a copper Iud inserted since 3 years. Doctors have advised to take a usg only after 40 days: What should be the next steps ? Are there risks of miscarriage / ectotopoic pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Chances of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy are high

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.

Pregnancy with copper T inside the uterus is at high risk of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.

Since the pregnancy can be visualized properly by a transvaginal scan only after 5 weeks, it better to do a scan after that, at around 40 days.

The ectopic pregnancy, if at all, will also be confirmed on that scan.
Further treatment should be done accordingly.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
