Does Protein Immunofixation Has No Paraprotien And Protein Electrophoresis Is Normal?

Question: Hi there, I was hoping for some guidance on my husband’s blood tests. He has been diagnosed with FLC mugs 11 years ago. He was only 40. His blood work is all normal, protein immunofixation has no paraprotien and protein electrophoresis is normal. Sometimes his albumin goes up. We just recently used a new lab and I don’t understand the results. I was hoping for some explanations

MGUS has an indolent course & can be characterized by elevated albumin only

Hello,
I am afraid the report has not been uploaded on forum.
MGUS has an indolent course and it may take years for it to develop into next state or it may not progress at all.
Albumin can be expected to be elevated in MGUS.
I suggest you to get serum immunofixation in addition to protein electrophoresis for more information on serum protein levels.
And upload the immunofixation report along with the curent report.

Hi there, he did have a serum immunofixation done as well and no paraprotein was detected. His albumin is usually normally sometimes it is 51 but usually at 47-49.
Is albumin of 53 high? The laboratory does not provide any ranges just indicates that it is elevated. I know ranges vary but on the internet as normal range is usually up to 54 or 5.4.

Hello and welcome again,
Slightly elevated albumin and a normal electrophoresis and immunofixation is not indicative of any serious condition.
The basis of diagnosis of MGUS cannot be understood.
I suggest you to follow up with total protein levels and electrophoresis every six months.
There is nothing more to be done.
