Does Rheumatoid Arthritis Cause Leg And Foot Muscle Spasms?
Question: I have RA been treated for 10+ yrs, currently on Actemra which seems to be helping. I have developed lower leg & foot muscle spasms which I had as a child. Is this a part of the RA?
Brief Answer:
It is not a part of RA
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I am Dr Aslam here to help you.
Muscle spasms are not a part of the direct symptoms complex of RA.
Although RA can cause some disturbances in muscle function, like muscle weakness, some degree of muscle atrophy etc, muscle spasms are not seen as part of RA per se.
Also, muscle spasm is not an established side effect of Actemra(tocilizumab).
So,we have look for other causes like hypocalcemia, electrolyte imbalance etc.
Your can discuss this with your treating doctor. He will guide you.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have further questions,I will be happy to help you.Thank you.
