Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the query.

If you have been diagnosed recently with moderate Rheumatoid arthritis, then it will take plenty of time for your hands to develop deformity.Don't worry.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a slowly progressive disease which passes through 3 stages-

1.Stage of inflammation (early stage when joints start to become painful)

2.Stage of stiffness (joints start to become stiff, range of movements gradually becomes less,no deformity)

3.Stage of deformity (last stage, deformities set in)

From your history,it seems that you may be in 1st stage.

If you take proper care and treatment, you can avoid your joints getting deformed forever.

Take DMARDs (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs) like leflunomide and anti-inflammatory tablets like paracetamol, ibupfofen, tramadol etc.

Joint exercises, physiotherapy along with calcium and vitamin D supplements will help.

Keep a watch on the levels of "RA factor" in blood. You may need to adjust the dose of medicines depending upon the RA factor levels in blood.

Get regular blood check ups and Xrays done to assess the progress of disease.

If you follow the above instructions, you may well be able to play piano and knit crochet for many many years to come.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any doubts that you may have.

Thank you.

Kind regards.

I have nodules on my wrists Does this indicate that RA is progressing more rapidly?

Brief Answer:
Query answered

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Just having nodules on joints does not necessarily indicate that RA is progressing more rapidly.

Highly swollen joints, redness, inflammation, high levels of RA factor, severe joint stiffness, involvement of more number of joints etc are signs of rapidly progressing RA.

Thank you.
