Does Smoking Marijuana Affect Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: Hi. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and have smoked marijuana regularly but not in excess throughout my pregnancy in order to keep any food down. This has allowed me to consume the calories I needed and maintain a healthy diet. I have had excellent prenatal care, as well as healthy, normal ultrasounds and genetic testing done throughout the pregnancy as well. I read conflicting information on the topic which seems taboo. What affect will this have on my baby at the time of birth if any? and will we be drug tested in the private New York hospital I'm having a cesarean section at? Please help!
Sincerely, A Healthy,Happy, Well Nourished Mother To Be

I know that it can be detected, but my question was IF private hospitals routinely test for it, especially if it's a cesarean. Also, exactly WHAT if any signs of withdrawal can baby show considering it's not physically addictive.? Thanks again. Also, if usage is stopped now, will this help reduce or eliminate any side affects? Will it leave mine and the baby's blood in 8 weeks?

Brief Answer:
Depends upon many things

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
Sorry for such a long delay in my response.
Routinely they are not doing its testing.
As your baby is fine upto 31 weeks of pregnancy and not showing any side effects may be they have no idea about it and not tested for it as a routine.
If you left it right now may be your baby shows so many side effects because of its use during pregnancy called Neonatal abstinence syndrome.
It can be detected in urine upto 67 days but usually not detected after one month.
So if you left it right now it cannot be detected.
Drink a lot of water to eliminate early.
Hope found useful.
Good luck.
