Does Spinal Stenosis Cause Neurogenic Claudication And Burning Sensation In Leg?
My bad cholesterol is 1.39 mmo/l or 69 mg./L. my CRP is low, my homcysteine is low too. Triglycerides are good. BP is 115/50.
I do have claudication in legs and mild/moderate spinal stenosis. All heart tests have been ok with mild aortic root dilation and tiny leak in one valve...I am managing the claudication but am afraid it could spread. Arterial ultra-sound tests 2 years ago have shown mild to moderate popliteal artery blockages in both legs and nothing elsewhere. I also have horribly flat feet. Could my claudication be a combination of flat feet, neuro-genic claudication combined with vascular claudication? I know that the peroneal nerve in the calf is part of the sciatic and I did have a disc problem about 25 years ago...And if so, what type of prognosis do I have? I do not smoke (stopped 6 months ago) and eat extremely well...But I am worried about low blood pressure and the claudication.
2-4 miles...sorry
Oh yes, I purchased some arch supports for feet which has helped...when I walk , I walk briskly to get my heart rate up to about 95-110...the pain starts first 1/2 mile, then I rest for 1 minute and continue...it diminshes but is still there but it is tolerable to continue walking.
I also take avapro 150 mg and amlidopine every day to control BP...it has worked well...
I also use a Revitive circulation booster on my feet 30 minutes day...basically a strong TENS machine...
Prognosis may not be good in combined neurogenic and vascular claudication.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case.
Canal stenosis leads to neurogenic claudication, burning/numb sensation and pain in your leg.
For these symptoms neurotropic medication like pregabalin can be started.
For vascular claudication medicine like pentoxyphylline can be started consulting your doctor.
Prognosis may not be good in combined neurogenic and vascular claudication.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
Epidural steroid shot can help for neurogenic claudication.
If you maintain high liquid diet with fruit juices then you may not face problems of blood pressure.
If there is no relief with all conservative measures then spine decompression with fusion can be done.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
