Question: Hi,

I underwent some steroid treatment when i was growing boy aged 14. I understand that steroids can cause growth of organs including heart. Suppose my treatment caused heart growth, and associated cell size growth and finally associated mitochondria numbers growth....since heart cells doesnt renew very often, can we say effects of the steroids (growth of cell size and growth of mitochondria) are permenant?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX

Your reasoning is right. By the microcellular point of view, the effect of steroids in mitochondria is permanent, because the growth of cardiac cell and organelles is very very slow.
