Does Usage Of Prilox Gel Help In Minimizing Pricking Pain During Dialysis?
Question: how do you apply prilox gel, does it cause any decolouration of the skin? is it safe to use for minimizing prick pain in dialysis needle insertion ?

Prilox gel (Lidocaine+Prilocaine) is a medication which numbs the nerves where it is appled and hence indicated for local anesthesia. It is thus useful in minimizing the pain prick sensation caused by needle insertion during dialysis.
It is meant for external use only. It can be applied as follows:
1. Wash and completely dry the affected area.
2. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected area 5 minutes before the intended insertion of the needle.
3. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed.
4. Wash your hands immediately after using the gel.
Generally it is a safe medication, however it may cause redness or swelling, pale skin or change in hot or cold sensation at the site of application in some individuals. It does not cause any discolouration of the skin.

Thanks. Is it safe to apply on the previous prick as the skin there is punctured ? Why LOX spray is not effective? Since the jell and spray contain same ingredients will the jell be effective? The leaflet with the jell says apply about an hour earlier what is the time frame for which it is effective?
