Does Usage Of Prilox Gel Help In Minimizing Pricking Pain During Dialysis?
It does not cause any discolouration of the skin.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your concern on Health care magic.
Prilox gel (Lidocaine+Prilocaine) is a medication which numbs the nerves where it is appled and hence indicated for local anesthesia. It is thus useful in minimizing the pain prick sensation caused by needle insertion during dialysis.
It is meant for external use only. It can be applied as follows:
1. Wash and completely dry the affected area.
2. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the affected area 5 minutes before the intended insertion of the needle.
3. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed.
4. Wash your hands immediately after using the gel.
Generally it is a safe medication, however it may cause redness or swelling, pale skin or change in hot or cold sensation at the site of application in some individuals. It does not cause any discolouration of the skin.
Hope I could answer your query.
Best regards.
Yes, it is safe to apply on previous prick.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply and the compliments.
1. It is safe to be applied on the previous prick.
2. LOX spray contains only Lidocaine which is less effective as compared to Prilox which consists of Lidocaine+Prilocaine and hence more effective.
3. The active ingredients (Lidocaine+Prilocaine) are better absorbed when applied in the intact skin as compared to the spray.
4. The onset of action is 3-5 minutes and it may last up to 60-90 minutes.
Hope I could answer your queries.
