Does Usage Of Zaditor Cause Severe Itching And Swelling In Hands?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: My hands itched terribly last evening. I itched and rubbed a lot, took 2 Benadryl and tried Cortisone10, and tried warm and cold compresses, and Epson compresses as my hands are now so swollen they look ready to pop! I am insulin dependent and have been on Januvia now for about 6 weeks with no reaction. I did use eye drops last evening never used before Zaditor. Can think of nothing else that could have caused the reaction. Ate Thai food last evening but nothing I haven't had before. II think that the swelling may be called edema? My hands are balloons and also my forearms are a bit swollen and tight. Can my excessive itching/rubbing of my skin have caused this? How can I get the swelling to reverse?

I chose the wrong specialist type. Having trouble using my hnds...

LPlease refer to the correct specialist type. tank you.

Brief Answer:
go to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history And understood your concerns.
Noted that you are on Insulin and used eye drops, used nothing new but got itching which got soled by Benedryl and cortisone.
The persisted swelling/ edema is due to allergy and enhanced by ruccing water treatment.
Zaditor eye drops contain ketotifen and are long acting topical antihistamine and hopefully not the cause of edema as you have explained.
In many such cases it is difficult to know the cause hence this is called idiopathic.
With the description you have given, I would advise you the following:
Continue Benedryl, cortisone dose may need raise but keeping blood sugar checking regularly.
You have to keep both hands in elevated position above heart level in laying down position.
It is better be examined by a doctor to decide the degree of edema, wjther it has affected the circulation or not.
In some cases subcutaneous adrenalin may be required as the strongest anti- allergen under Doctors supervision only.

You ma post pictures as it helps sometimes for on the spot diagnosis.
Also watch for circulation in nail beds.
Go to Er for further investigations and management.
Note: For further inquiries on surgery procedure and its risks or complications book an appointment now
