Does Varicocele Have Any Effect On Future Fertility?

Question: 17 year old son just found out he has varicocceles. He suspected this after a month of constant testicular pain. just had an ultrasound where it was seen, hasn't seen the dr yet. he is very concerned that he will Never have sex or be able to masturbate without pain all day long afterwards. he is on the internet constantly and I think that it cant be as bad as he thinks. What is his outlook as far as the pain and future fertility?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 17 years old son has been detected to have Varicocele on both sides and is worried about his sexual potency and ability to masturbate.

Please note that varicocele is in no way related to one's ability either to masturbate or to have normal sexual life .

However it may cause infertility due to temperature imbalance that affects production of sperms and there by lead to low sperm count (Oligospermia) and motility of sperms .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get his colour Doppler study of scrotum done to fine out the grade of varicocele He will decide regarding further management and need for surgery if required .

As regards pain he can take pain killers like Brufen twice daily.
