Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: Hello. Does platelet count decrease because of viral fever. My wife has fever and expiriencing chills from yesterday night. We did a cbc tested dengue and did a urine routine. The dengue ns1 igm and ige was negative but platelet was 93000 and esr is 50. From urine test her pus cells is 4-5 and epithelial cells are 7-8. What does all this mean? Does she have dengue or its a viral fever as mentioned by the doctor with urine infection. Please advise

Brief Answer:
Yes viral fever leads to low platelet count.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
She has fever with chills and rigor.
She may have viral fever or malaria. Both can leads to low platelet count.
Her dengue test is negative. So it can be other viral fever or malaria. Her urine show 4 to 5 pus cells only so nothing to worry about that.

She should go for malaria test. If it is negative then take treatment of viral fever. Don't worry much about that. Just be relaxed. She will get recovery within few days.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
