5. Also back in October 2019 I had received a flu vaccination

6. My question is Dr., since I had a high-grade fever and I did not have the flu, do you think it could have been the coronavirus? Since the common cold is usually usually not characterize with a high-grade fever.

Brief Answer: XXXXXXX WITH HIGH FEVER WAS UNLIKELY TO BE CORONA

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that has been recently discovered in late 2019 and it clearly started in a specific part of the world (i.e Huan region of China).
In past,it has not been identified in humans.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic which are transmitted between animals and humans.

If you had no travel history to the affected countries,it is very unlikely that you had a corona infection.

As far as you having a high grade fever is concerned,a respiratory tract infection can present with high grade fever depending on the severity of the infection.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Dr —

1. It is my understanding that standing near someone who is infected and inhaling the air that the infected person is exhaling — is enough to transmit COVID-19? Is this correct doctor?

2. Do you know for how long one must stand in the vicinity of another who is infected and inhale the air that the infected person is exhaling, in order for the disease to be transmitted?

Thanks—

Brief Answer:
EXPOSURE TO CORONA

Detailed Answer:
Hi...

For getting infected with Corona, one needs to be in close contact with an infected person.

As per WHO guidelines, close contact means ....

Living with a COVID-19 patient in same house.
Taking care of a sick COVID-19 patient.
Being within 6 feet of a COVID-19 patient for about 10 minutes.
Being in direct contact with secretions of a COVID-19.

If such a scenario is there,it is called as close contact with COVID-19.
If such a person develops symptoms like fever, cough and shortness of breath during the 14 days after the exposure, they should monitor their health.
Such patient should be in quarantine and should be confined to home.
He/She should avoid public places for 14 days.

Warm regards.
