Question: Dr Bansal answered a question for us and asked how were doing. But when I clicked on a response to him it didn't go through. So Dr Banal thanks for asking. We are OK. Now I have another question. What is the proper dose of Vitamin B-12. I have the beginning stages of macular degeneration and I understand this vitamin is good for that. I have a bottle of B-12, Spring Valley, of 5000 mcg. Is this a proper dose? XXXXXXX Demint

Brief Answer:
The best micronutrients for macular degeneration are lutein and zeaxanthin and not vitamin B12

Detailed Answer:
Hey thanks for your question . Vitamin B 12 is important indeed as it helps in nerve regeneration and should be take one tablet a day for the same but for macular degeneration as per AREDS study which is followed worldwide lutein and zeaxanthin are the principal micornuteints. Therefore you should take that formulation once a day for macular degeneration . Hope my answer helps you. Regards

Brief Answer:
Occuvite is good and daily dose of vitamin B12 is 1000-2500mcg/ day

Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the follow up. Occuvite is good for macular degeneration. There is no particular need to take vitamin B12 if you dont have a deficiency dear . However there are usually no side effects of the same as excess is excreted in the urine . Hope my answer helps you. Regards
